August 26, 2023December 25, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

Shuangliu Waterfall Trail is one of several trails inside Shuangliu National Forest Recreation Area. It's testament to the prettiness of the park that we had a great time despite never even making it as far as the waterfall itself. The trail is gentle, easy and has a couple of stepping stone trails that are great fun.

Mount Mawuba, Mawuba Shan Trail inside Shei-pa National Park Mount Mawuba sits just inside the borders of Shei-pa National Park, deep inside Taichung's mountainous Heping District. It's a breathtakingly beautiful walk, and best of all, it doesn't require any permits.

MAOSING MAIN TRAIL (茂興步道主線)

September 30, 2022November 16, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

Of the two trails accessible from Taipingshan's iconic bong bong train, Maosing Main Trail is both the longer and flatter option. It follows the course of the old tracks for a gentle 1km wander through grand forest scenery.

MAOSING LOOP TRAIL (茂興懷舊步道環線)

September 23, 2022November 16, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

Riding the bright yellow bong bong train is one of Taipingshan's most memorable experiences. The twenty minute journey takes you to Maosing Station where you have the choice of two short trails to explore.

September 16, 2022December 25, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / 4 Comments

CUEIFENG LAKE CIRCULAR TRAIL (翠峰湖環山步道)

September 2, 2022August 19, 2025 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

June 24, 2022May 16, 2025 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

It can be seen after periods of heavy rain, and only then for a brief time. As if this didn't make the pool intriguing enough, it is also home to a population of fairy shrimp which spawn in great numbers when the conditions are just right.

Seen in a smallish temple Chishang: a bouquet of rice in place of the usual lilies. Good evening Taipei. This year’s silvergrass season has definitely arrived. These photos were taken at Sanjiaopu Peak (三角埔頂山), a popular New Taipei spot for silvergrass photography, and this week, I’ve also seen photos showing Mount Qixing’s Lengshuikeng Trail, Qingtiangang, and Mount Bangping all covered in the fluffy plumes.

Note: Taiwan Trails and Tales has been going for over eight years now, so there are a fair few dead links and bits of information that need updating on the site. If you find one, I would greatly appreciate it if you let me know either by commenting on that post or by dropping me a line in the contact form (on the "About" page) so that I can remove or update it.
