HIKES IN YANGMINGSHAN NATIONAL PARK

XIAOGUANYIN SHAN LOOP WALK (小觀音山O型縱走)

April 23, 2018January 31, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / 5 Comments

img_2467 A moderately difficult and very fun loop hike with absolutely stunning views over Yangmingshan Park's bamboo cloaked northern hills. This is one of my favourite walks in this area and a must for anyone seeking to get away from the crowds at Qixing peak.

JUANSI WATERFALL TRAIL to LENGSHUIKENG (絹絲瀑布/冷水坑)

February 16, 2018February 28, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / 1 Comment

A gentle and relaxing stroll beside a stream with plenty to enjoy. This walk will take you past a couple of historical remains, a charming waterfall, around a couple of interesting ponds, over Jingshan suspension bridge and finishes at Lengshuikeng Visitor Centre.

QIXING SHAN (七星山)

December 12, 2016January 11, 2025 / taiwantrailsandtales / 6 Comments

An exciting hike through the uplands of Yangmingshan National Park with the promise of a hotspring soak for your feet at the end.

Tung season is currently bringing its white, green and blue colour palette to the hills of northern Taiwan. These photos are from Daqiong Trail in Taoyuan — a popular spot with blossom chasers. Although I’m dreading the return of summer temperatures and mosquitoes, this time of year is one I look forward to — it brings fireflies and tung blossom. I haven't been out on any firefly-watching expeditions yet, but in anticipation of the season, I've just added a new trail guide to the Taiwan Trails and Tales site. It covers a popular firefly viewing spot that I visited last year. Some 16x9 aspect ratio shots from a short stroll up to Pingjing Street this afternoon, where the second wave of cherry blossoms are very much still in bloom.

Note: Taiwan Trails and Tales has been going for over eight years now, so there are a fair few dead links and bits of information that need updating on the site. If you find one, I would greatly appreciate it if you let me know either by commenting on that post or by dropping me a line in the contact form (on the "About" page) so that I can remove or update it.
