MOUNT MOYAN TRAIL (墨硯山步道)

October 21, 2023December 11, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

The highlight of this weird little wander in Miaoli's Touwu Township was the unexpected discovery of a semi-abandoned pleasure garden. That aside, it also offers views over Miaoli's urban centre.

October 7, 2023December 11, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

This span of the RST crosses the hills between Guanxi with Hengshan. Along the way, you'll pass waterwheels that are still in operation as well as twin temples which sparked a disagreement between neighbouring townships, and plenty of orange farms.

Criss-crossing the hills of Beitun District there is a network of paths for hikers to enjoy. This route encompasses two of the Dakeng trails, and takes you past temples, up steep summits and through a mountaintop adventure playground.

WUFENGQI WATERFALLS and OUR LADY OF WUFENGQI CHURCH (五峰旗瀑布/五峰旗聖母朝聖地)

September 13, 2023December 11, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

Wufengqi Scenic Area in Yilan’s Jiaoxi District is a great place to escape to when the mercury starts to rise. Walking the shaded waterfall trails and paddling in the shallow stream can help to counter the oppressive summer heat.

HENG SHAN (橫山)

September 9, 2023December 11, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

This easy walk straddling the border of Changhua and Nantou Counties takes in number 48 of Taiwan’s Xiao Bai Yue.

SHUANGLIU WATERFALL TRAIL (雙流瀑布)

August 26, 2023December 25, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

Shuangliu Waterfall Trail is one of several trails inside Shuangliu National Forest Recreation Area. It's testament to the prettiness of the park that we had a great time despite never even making it as far as the waterfall itself. The trail is gentle, easy and has a couple of stepping stone trails that are great fun.

RONGXUAN TRAIL (容軒步道)

August 19, 2023December 2, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

Rongxuan Trail is a short and easy loop walk right next to Taiwan's northernmost train station.

RAKNUS SELU DAY 3 via BAILING PAVILION (樟之細路D3B)

August 5, 2023December 2, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

Taiwan hikes, Taiwan walking holidays, Taiwan long distance hikes There are two routes connecting Hsinchu's Guanxi and Hengshan Townships. This one follows small roads and agricultural tracks as it cuts through low hills on its way south.

TIEZHAN SHAN (鐵站山)

July 8, 2023December 2, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

Tiezhan Shan is an easy walk with lots in the way of random art/weirdness to distract you from the fact that it’s not much of a walk. This is one of the Minor 100 Peaks that you could bring your gran to.

KEELUNG ISLET (基隆嶼)

July 1, 2023December 2, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

Keelung Islet is a small rocky mound just a few kilometres off the coast of northern Taiwan. It is also a great choice for a day trip from the city.

Taiwan Trails and Tales Facebook
Cherry blossom under blue skies in New Taipei’s Xizhi District. This week’s post covers Fulongshan Trail, a short and sweet walk in New Taipei’s Wugu District, which (in a couple of weeks’ time) should be looking pretty in pink. Happy faces all round.

Note: Taiwan Trails and Tales has been going for over eight years now, so there are a fair few dead links and bits of information that need updating on the site. If you find one, I would greatly appreciate it if you let me know either by commenting on that post or by dropping me a line in the contact form (on the "About" page) so that I can remove or update it.
