December 10, 2018June 17, 2022 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

Pingxi is famed for is annual sky lantern festival. An enchanting spectacle where hundreds of lanterns are released into the night. They may look pretty in the photos, but the sky lanterns of Pingxi leave an unpleasant stain on the landscape around this charming railway village.

Close to the remains of Gongziliao Fort, walkers can find the summit of Mount Gongziliao, an easy one Xiao Bai Yue. At only 162 metres above sea level, it’s not one of Taiwan’s most magnificent peaks, but if you include a trip to see the first, this is a great half-day outing. NEW TRAIL GUIDE: Mount Gongziliao and Mount Gongziliao Fort (槓子寮山/槓子寮砲臺) Scenes from a hot wander in Hsinchu.
