WUFENGQI WATERFALLS and OUR LADY OF WUFENGQI CHURCH (五峰旗瀑布/五峰旗聖母朝聖地)

September 13, 2023December 11, 2024 / taiwantrailsandtales / Leave a comment

Wufengqi Scenic Area in Yilan’s Jiaoxi District is a great place to escape to when the mercury starts to rise. Walking the shaded waterfall trails and paddling in the shallow stream can help to counter the oppressive summer heat.

This section of the Taipei Skyline Trail was an unexpected delight. It has the twin charms of both a fun ridge walk and a temple-studded historic trail.

This big-sky bike ride along Dongshan River felt like breathing a sigh of relief after all these low-cloud rainy days we’ve been having. Though Dashu (大暑) has official passed, we’re still months away from genuinely cool weather. Still, when in Beitou, a girl can dream. Yesterday’s good company and pleasant wander amidst the mists and the murk and the rain was precisely the tonic for my soul that I needed. Yesterday's night hike turned out to be rather fruitful. We spotted two greater green snakes, two mock vipers, a bamboo pit viper, and a red-banded snake — six snakes in total. A tip for aspiring snake spotters: look up. Five of the six were in trees, two of them much higher than I'd have expected. Big thanks to Kristel from Rewild Taiwan for showing us where to look.

Note: Taiwan Trails and Tales has been going for over eight years now, so there are a fair few dead links and bits of information that need updating on the site. If you find one, I would greatly appreciate it if you let me know either by commenting on that post or by dropping me a line in the contact form (on the "About" page) so that I can remove or update it.
