SHOUSHAN BOARDWALK TRAIL (壽山木棧道)
This boardwalk trail winds through Kaohsiung’s coral-limestone Mount Shou, where relaxed troupes of monkeys and traces of the hill’s military and cement-quarrying past keep things interesting. Multiple pavilions along the ridge offer free tea and sweeping views over the Taiwan Strait.
MOUNT DAGANG and PANLONG CANYON (大崗山/盤龍峽谷/天靈洞)
This easy trail in Kaosiung’s Alian District is full of interesting details. There’s a twisty slot canyon, a temple in a cave, and one of Taiwan’s 100 Minor Peaks.
MOUNT WANGYELUN and LONGLIN BIZARRE STONES (王爺崙山/龍鱗奇岩)
There’s some fun hiking to be had in the hills around Tainan. Case in point is this neat little loop in Nanhua District. It has rocky scrambles, beautiful, sprawling trees, and (in clear weather), great views of the surrounding area.
